On Thursday 11 September, as a part of its Annual General Meeting, Nelson Branch held a lunch to recognise distinguished fellows of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Fellows were presented with fellowship pins to recognise their contribution to the profession and their community in the year that celebrates the Institute’s centenary.
Nelson Chairman, Grant Wilson, said “It’s an honour to be a part of a professional body that has reached 100 years; few organisations in New Zealand have reached this milestone”.
2nd Vice President Dinu Harry presented the fellows with their pins. Amongst those who received pins were Joanne Scott, Sue Malthus, Barry Thompson, Bruce Bell, Owen Gunn, Victor MacLennan and Ross Stevenson.
Also at this lunch certificates were presented for 50-year memberships and new Chartered Accountant and Associate Chartered Accountant memberships. Barry Thompson and Ted Anderson received their 50-year memberships. Robert Bowen received his Chartered Accountant certificate and Associate Chartered Accountant certificates were presented to Leanne Anderson, Matthew Koning, Kelvin Scoble, Julie Sherratt, John Rollston.’
In the evening a centennial dinner at Vintners Hotel Malborough was held where a fellowship pin was presented as well as a 60-year certificate and Chartered Accountant and an Associate Chartered Accountant certificates.
Felix Brice received a 60-year membership certificate, telling the audience, “60 years is – well a long time”. Kay Flaherty received her Chartered Accountant certificate and Denise Andrell received her Associated Chartered Accountant certificate.
Fellowships are awarded by the Institute to members who have demonstrated outstanding service to the accounting profession, or for service to the community. They are nominated by their peers, and only 15 are inducted nationally each year.
