30,000 the lucky number

It was a cause for real celebration in April, as the Institute of Chartered Accountants welcomed their 30,000th current member – provisional chartered accountant Sandra Wee, pictured cutting the cake with Institute President Graham Crombie (left) and CEO Keith Wedlock.

“We’re very happy to welcome Sandra to the Institute to take our numbers of current members over 30,000,” said Graham in his address. “This is a very important milestone in the Institute’s 100-year history in New Zealand.”

Malaysian-born but now based in Auckland, she works for EICP Ltd as Client Services and Operations Manager. EICP Ltd is a financial investment services company which provides online trading services to private traders and investors around the world.

“It’s very busy but great career wise as it allows me the chance to really get to know the whole business.”

“The part I enjoy the most is using data and figures to help companies grow and be more competitive. It’s not just about the numbers, it’s about strategic planning.”

Sandra did her BCA at Victoria University of Wellington in the 1990s, returning for a time to Malaysia, then settling here in New Zealand in 2000 where she put her career on hold to begin a family.

Being given a chance to do accounting work in her current role made her revisit this pathway and she completed her graduate diploma in accounting at Victoria University in 2004.

She is kept busy juggling her challenging accounting career with children Owen, six and Chloe, 18 months.
